User-centered design specialists provide training on user-centered design techniques, usability evaluation methodologies and accessibility.
- User-centered design techniques: User-centered design is a philosophy that places the user at the center of the design and development process. The training covers best practices related to the entire technology development life-cycle, including the initial technology design, user analysis, development issues, and evaluation of user performance.
- Usability evaluation methodologies: There are several techniques and procedures that depend on the purpose of the evaluation and the stage in the development process. Examples include conducting a contextual inquiry or focus group for gathering user requirements, or performing formal one-on-one user evaluations that incorporate task scenarios and a structured walk-through approach. Training can cover a number of these methodologies.
- Accessibility: The Center offers training on accessibility issues including federal regulations (Section 508) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (Priority 1). Incorporating these standards and guidelines enhances the user experience of people with disabilities who use assistive technology to interact with Web sites, Web applications, or software interfaces.
