Student Poster Session
Overview
This poster session gives students from various design backgrounds the opportunity to participate in the World Usability Day event and to demonstrate their skills. Individual students or teams of students may submit a poster, and the project outcome may be a user interface or a physical product. The product does not need to have progressed beyond the design phase.
Submission Requirements
Please submit:
1. A short written description of your project, including the following:
- A description of what you have designed.
- A description of the design process you followed.
- Reference to design principles and theory, if appropriate.
2. An electronic copy of your full-size poster in PDF format. You will be required to bring a physical copy of the poster to the World Usability Day event.
General guidelines:
- Please send submissions to submissions@miupa.org.
- The deadline for entry is November 1, 2006.
- All submissions must include a title and author contact information (including school affiliation).
- Submissions must not contain or cite proprietary or confidential material.
- All electronically submitted materials should be in PDF format.
- Students from all levels, from undergraduate to post-graduate, may participate.
- Posters may be submitted by individual students or by teams of students.
- The poster must describe the student's or team's own work.
- Late submissions will not be reviewed.
Poster session guidelines:
- The poster should have the approximate dimensions -- 36 by 48 inches -- and be able to stand upright on its own. We recommend the use of a tri-fold poster board.
- We encourage students to prepare handouts and/or business cards for interested attendees. These materials can be attached to the poster or placed next to it.
- We will not supply electricity or any electronic equipment.
Review
A review committee comprising usability professionals will review each poster submission and accompanying written description. The review criteria will be based on both the quality of the draft poster and the quality and appropriateness of the design process. Based on their review, the committee will recommend posters for inclusion in the poster session.
Event Schedule
The World Usability Day event coordinator will allocate space for students whose submissions have been accepted by the review committee. More information will be provided about the day's schedule with notification of acceptance. You will be notified of your acceptance by November 3, 2006.
